Texas Travel Troupe Launches First Prototype

This phase of our project was all about ideation and feedback. After about a week of post-it mania, we zeroed in on action items with Texas Highways’ help.

We built our first prototype, which was a quiz consisting of five questions related to travel preferences, such as “Are you looking for nature activities or city activities?”

You can view our first prototype HERE.

Each question had two answers to choose from, and each answer corresponded with a point value. The users’ number of points at the end of the quiz determined which of two destinations they received as their quiz result.

We hoped to learn if people thought there were too many, too few, or just the right amount of questions and if they thought their given destination aligned with their responses. We also wanted to learn if there were any other questions we should ask or if we needed to rephrase or cut any of the existing questions.

To get our prototype in front of people, we organized a focus group via Zoom. We sent the invitation to everyone who gave us their emails after taking our initial survey, which included Texas Highways readers, Texas travel influencers and just people who love to travel. Eight people joined the focus group, and all but two completed the feedback survey we distributed after the quiz.

From the users’ feedback, we learned that being specific about the meaning of the answer choices is important because there can be separate meanings for different people. For example, certain people might consider a city an “active” location, whereas others might think an “active” location would have lots of outdoor activities. We also learned that road trip destinations in Texas should offer a variety of activities, considering the state's size, and future quizzes could benefit from tailored questions based on users' previous answers to enhance relevance.

What's Next for the Texas Travel Troupe?

In order to continue our project, we would plan to use two different implementation methods: keep iterating and live prototyping and explore scalability. Method 1: Keep Iterating and Live Prototyping
